Metroid Dread and It Takes Two have been nominated for the Game Awards 2021 GOTY award

Metroid Dread and It Takes Two are among the Game Awards 2021 in all categories (including a game of the year).

Metroid Dread and It Takes Two are among the nominees for The Game Awards 2021’s Game of the Year category. The complete list of nominees is unveiled ahead of the December 9 awards presentation. The Game Awards 2021’s in-person event will return to Los Angeles, California’s Microsoft Theater, on December 9, after going digital-only last year, but spectators will still be able to follow along online as previously.

The Last of Us Part II swept six categories and took up the coveted Game of the Year prize at The Game Awards 2020. The PlayStation exclusive became the most-awarded video game in history during last year’s awards season. Other games such as Ghost of Tsushima, Hades, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons received honours during Geoff Keighley’s earlier industry celebration, but the awards have begun to take a backseat to the show’s true star: game trailers. Between the announcements of winners, anticipated titles like BioWare’s Mass Effect 4 and Dragon Age 4 had high-profile appearances, and this year’s Game Awards nominations will likely bookend equally huge disclosures.

Deathloop, It Takes Two, Metroid Dread, Psychonauts 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Resident Evil Village are the Game of the Year contenders, as announced by Geoff Keighley in a Tuesday webcast. A panel of media sources selected the games for the list, and each title is among the year’s most critically acclaimed titles published during the eligibility period. The Game Awards 2021 are divided into 30 categories, and the entire list of nominees may be found below.

In addition to the dozens of featured titles at The Game Awards 2021, viewers will see the results of an ongoing gaming industry competition by the conclusion of the night. A follow-up Game Awards tweet outlines which companies are currently topping the field in terms of nominations. Xbox/Bethesda receives the most (20) in the publishers’ first shared awards season after Bethesda’s takeover. The overall winner of The Game Awards 2021, Sony Interactive Entertainment is in the second position with 11 nominations, followed by EA and Square Enix in a tie for third place. Despite Xbox’s current lead, it’s impossible to predict which publisher will win the most awards in the end.

Because the eligibility period for The Game Awards 2021 covers games released and reviewed between November 21, 2020, and November 19, 2021, several notable titles such as Battlefield 2042 and Halo Infinite will have to wait until next year’s ceremony to be included. As a result, standing out among titles like Elden Ring and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 in 2022’s game of the year pool. Despite the year’s outstanding nominees, judges and fans will find the GOTY and Player’s Voice honours at The Game Awards 2021 comparatively simpler to decide.
