CD Projekt Red has discreetly amended the Cyberpunk 2077 timeline, stating that free DLC and additional patches would not be available until 2022.
The Cyberpunk 2077 post-launch schedule has been quietly updated, with CD Projekt Red clarifying that free DLC and additional patches will now arrive in 2022. The news comes a little over a week after the studio announced plans to push out the release of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 until next year.
Both next-generation enhancements were initially scheduled to arrive in the second half of 2021. On the other hand, CD Projekt Red voiced doubt on its ability to stick to the specified launch schedule in its September 2021 management board report. The company’s decision to push Cyberpunk 2077’s next-gen upgrade to Q1 2022 and The Witcher 3’s to an undefined date in the second quarter of 2022 came as no surprise. However, the Polish company remained tight-lipped about its roadmap intentions, which included further Cyberpunk 2077 patches and the sci-fi RPG’s long-awaited free downloadable expansion set to arrive this year. CDPR has broken the silence, but it has done so without drawing much attention to the changes.
The roadmap for Cyberpunk 2077 was stealthily updated on CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk.net website yesterday, October 28. A section called “Multiple Updates & Improvements” was included in the roadmap earlier this year, along with a place designated for “Free DLCs.” The years 2021 and 2022 were placed on either side of this section of the map. The updated roadmap now includes a marker for “Updates, Improvements, and Free DLCs,” neatly behind the 2022 tag. The patches above, updates, and DLC will not be available until next year.
Interestingly, despite past assurances of openness, CD Projekt Red has failed to make the content plan adjustments public. Neither the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account nor the CDPR website has attempted to link to the updated Cyberpunk.net FAQ page. Hopefully, this isn’t a sign that the studio is reverting to previous patterns.
The disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077 in December 2020 created a slew of issues. For one thing, Sony made the unprecedented decision to remove the RPG from PlayStation’s digital marketplace due to a refund fiasco, and it wasn’t released on PSN till late June. Furthermore, after the game’s release, CD Projekt Red’s stock price plummeted. Investor lawsuits were also filed against the once-famous development company. It’s unclear whether the tide will ever totally flip in the game’s favor.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available on Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
