Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Remakes' Redesigned Gym Leaders, Team Galactic Revealed

New designs for the remakes’ Gym Leaders and Team Galactic leaders can be seen in a new Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl teaser.

The redesigned designs for more of the original games’ Gym Leaders and Team Galactic have been revealed in a new teaser for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, showing the Lake Guardians in action. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are Nintendo DS remakes of the Gen 4 Pokémon games. Despite the change to 3D visuals, they appear to maintain the aesthetics of the original games.

Because Pokémon Platinum was the enhanced version of the original duo of games, it was widely expected that Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl would borrow content from it. This doesn’t appear to be the case since the new teaser shows that the remakes will be far more faithful to the original films in terms of content. This has sparked suspicion that Pokémon Platinum content would be released as DLC, but it’s also possible that the more comprehensive release’s tweaks and additions will be overlooked entirely.

Two of the toughest Pokémon Gym Leaders in the Sinnoh region have been redesigned for the remake’s new art style, according to a video for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Candice, the Snowpoint City Gym Leader who specializes in Ice-type Pokémon, is the first. Candice’s main Pokémon in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl was an Abomasnow with good attack stats. In Pokémon Platinum, she added a Froslass to her team, which combined Abomasnow’s Snow Warning attack with the Snow Cloak ability. The second Gym Leader featured is Volkner, Sunyshore City’s Electric-type expert, who looks like Naruto Minato. In Platinum, Volkner pulls out a powerful Electivire, but a tough Ground-type Pokémon can easily defeat his entire team.

The new designs for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl’s Team Galactic commanders, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, were also revealed in the video. Cyrus, the commander of Team Galactic, was also given a new look. When Team Galactic members meet the player in a Pokémon battle, they have their own distinctive, starry battlefield. The Lake Guardians, Azelf, Mesprit, and Uxie, three Legendary Pokémon that live in caves across Sinnoh, were also seen in the Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl teaser. They were taken by Team Galactic in the original games and utilized as a part of a conspiracy to control Dialga or Palkia. Players can try to catch the Lake Guardians for themselves after finishing the main story objective.

The Pokémon Company is progressively leaking details to hype up the remakes of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, which will be released soon. The game’s in-battle character models appear to be accurate representations of their original designs. The Sinnoh Gym Leaders and Team Galactic members’ new looks are sure to please fans of the DS titles (with the possible exception of their chibi overworld models, depending on personal preference).

On November 19, 2021, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will be released for Nintendo Switch.
