One Mortal Kombat fan expressed his desire for a large roster in Mortal Kombat 12, with a custom character choosing screen taken from Armageddon.
One Mortal Kombat fan has asked for a large roster for the rumoured Mortal Kombat 12, as well as a character selecting screen similar to Mortal Kombat: Armageddon from 2006. Despite contradicting claims regarding what Mortal Kombat creator NetherRealm is working on next, current rumours imply that the long-running fighting game franchise’s next instalment is taking precedence over other potential projects such as DC Comics’ Injustice 3 or a suspected Marvel fighting game.
Naturally, this has sparked conjecture regarding who from NetherRealm’s illustrious and diverse pool of playable warriors will return in Mortal Kombat 12, especially after the Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath DLC shook up the series’ status quo considerably. While some fans are hoping for classic fighters like Raiden to return as hidden unlockable characters in Mortal Kombat 12, others see the new game as an opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction – or perhaps make a few more Mortal Kombat urban legends canon, as NetherRealm did with Smoke and Ermac.
Meanwhile, as evidenced by the mock character selection screen she uploaded earlier today, Twitter user and Twitch broadcaster Dame Falconstein is expecting that Mortal Kombat 12 would offer a vast roster of characters spanning the entire Mortal Kombat franchise. “Make the Mortal Kombat 12 roster so darn big that we’ll need a magnifying glass to see who’s there!” she also advises NetherRealm. As a result, people have debated whether beginners will appreciate having to learn 78 different movesets. Others expressed optimism that fans will cease pestering NetherRealm to include their favourite unused character in Mortal Kombat 12 at the very least.

These users also compared Dame Falconstein’s modified Mortal Kombat 12 character selection screen to the one found in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, which featured practically every playable combatant ever seen in a Mortal Kombat game, including obscure comedy characters like Meat and Mokap. It was also the second-to-last game in the series before NetherRealm relaunched it with Mortal Kombat in 2011, with Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe being the only game in between.
Over the years, the Mortal Kombat franchise has seen a slew of iconic characters arise, including legends like Liu Kang and Scorpion, as well as newcomers like Cassie Cage and even Rambo and Spawn. As a result, a roster comprising all of them would easily dwarf Mortal Kombat: Armageddon’s already massive roster. However, considering the Earthrealm-shattering events of Mortal Kombat 11, NetherRealm is likely to be pickier about who cuts Mortal Kombat 12.
