Mobile game Sideswipe has launched Season 1 of Rocket League

The first season of Rocket League Sideswipe is officially live, and it coincides with the launch of a crossover event with the original Rocket League.

Rocket League Sideswipe Season 1 is now available in the rocket-powered mobile game from Epic Games and Psyonix. Sideswipe, a simplified spin-off of Rocket League, has been preseason since its mid-November release on Google Play and the Apple App Store, and it’s finally ready for its first Rocket League-style event.

Rocket League Sideswipe Season 1 launched on Thursday, accompanied by a colorful cinematic teaser akin to some of the main game’s previous promotional videos. This means that free and premium users can now proceed through Season 1 of Sideswipe’s Rocket Pass, and competitive ranks achieved during the preseason have been reset. The most noticeable in-game update is the addition of Sideswipe’s first event, which is a Rocket League crossover. Completing the Rocket League Sideswipe event tasks will grant free access to the Rocket League exclusive Nuhai Inverted Wheels and Wow! Goal Explosion, a potential lure for those who already play both and those interested in giving the mobile game a try.

While full Rocket League PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports are still in the works, Sideswipe is a whole new game. As a result, it’s only natural for Psyonix and Epic to connect it to the original game for its first in-game event. Only time will tell if the Rocket League Crossover Event in Rocket League Sideswipe Season 1 is enough to pull console and PC gamers into the fold, but the promise of premium items for the free-to-play game could help.

For iOS and Android, Rocket League Sideswipe is available.
