Red Dead Redemption 2 Undead Nightmare Mod Gives What Rockstar Won't

Because Rockstar Games has decided not to produce Undead Nightmare for Red Dead Redemption 2, PC modders have created their own zombie-infested experience.

After getting tired of waiting for Rockstar Games to release the Undead Nightmare DLC for Red Dead Redemption 2, a couple of modders decided to create the horror-filled content themselves. Undead Nightmare DLC for Red Dead Redemption was released just in time for Halloween 2010, and it is widely regarded as one of the best expansions in gaming. Since the prequel release in 2018, fans have hoped that Rockstar would give a zombie-infested experience as a Halloween celebration once more. However, no such content has been published.

Even though the development team continues to avoid the subject, players in Red Dead 2 have come across what appear to be Undead Nightmare hints on multiple occasions. One such suggestion appears in the epilogue, where John Marston is depicted as an undead creature under certain circumstances. In addition, zombies were discovered roaming the map in Red Dead Online in 2019. However, these apparent indications have yet to be confirmed, leading many to believe that Rockstar has no plans to make a sequel to Undead Nightmare. As a result, a couple of skilled modders decided to take matters into their own hands.

PC modders Dick Hertz and Eki published Undead Nightmare II – Origins to Nexus Mods in place of a Rockstar Games Undead Nightmare expansion (via PCGamesN). The mod sends a disease through New Austin, causing the dead to rise from their graves and wreck devastation on everything in their path. Civilized towns, backwater communities, and the wilderness are all under siege by the undead hordes. Undead Nightmare II also includes a unique soundtrack, unique clothing items, and secret elements. In an update following the mod’s initial release, a playable Undead John Marston joins the fight for survival. Quarantine Gamer’s YouTube channel’s “Mod Showcase” gives a closer look at the eerie new material in action.

Given that the original Red Dead Redemption and its DLC never made it to PC, this release should gratify a lot of PC gamers. Although Undead Nightmare II isn’t the real thing, most would argue that this content rollout is better than what Rockstar has so far delivered.

Hope, on the other hand, should not be forgotten just yet. With the GTA Trilogy remaster on the horizon, speculations and rumors say that the studio is also considering a Red Dead Redemption remaster. However, nothing concrete has been confirmed as of yet.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is now available on Google Stadia and PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
