Remove YouTube Ads With This Stupidly Simple Trick

Redditors have discovered a straightforward thanks to removing ads from YouTube videos by adding a name period.

The trick – first reported on Reddit and subsequently by Android Police – involves merely placing a period (or full stop) after the .com within the URL of the video you’re watching. This seems to eliminate all pre-roll ads, which may appear midway through the video and advertising overlays.

It seems the trick only works in specific browsers. In my tests, it worked in Google Chrome on both Mac desktop and Android mobile, as in Chromium-based browsers like Microsoft Edge’s remake and, therefore, the non-Chromium Safari. However, it failed in Firefox, where inserting the amount returned me to the YouTube homepage.

It has to be said. There are easier ways to dam YouTube ads in web browsers. For instance, plugins like Enhancer for YouTube allow you to get rid of ads at the press of an icon and perform other handy tricks, like change the playback speed or resize the video window.

It’s probably only a matter of your time before this trick is disabled. With YouTube advertising already suffering within the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Google won’t want to form it any easier for viewers to dodge income-generating ads.

Block advertiser URLs in AdSense

You can block specific ads from appearing on your pages. This is often helpful once you don’t need to display particular ads – for instance, you would possibly want to dam ads resulting in competitors’ sites.

You can block ads that link (or click through) to specific URLs. This way, you’ll easily block all ads that are linked to your competitor at www.example.com. By entering a top-level domain like www.example.com, you’ll also block all ads that link to subdirectories below that domain.

You can block a maximum of 500 URLs.
