Create a Windows Server 2003 recovery disk

To get to the Recovery Console, follow these steps:

  1. In the optical drive, place the CD.
  2. Your computer should be restarted.
  3. Hit R at the Welcome to the Setup screen to load Recovery Console.
  4. Choose the Windows installation to use the Recovery console to access.
  5. You’ll need to log in as the system’s Administrator or any other user with administrative privileges. Do so, then type in the password.
  6. Press Enter.
  7. Now you should be able to access the Recovery Console.

You can now use Recovery Console to run the bootcfg or chkdsk commands.

Create a Windows Server 2008 recovery disk

You can utilize your original Windows Server 2008 installation CD as a recovery drive.

You can recover your computer from a bare metal restoration image that you prepared with the Windows Server backup software.

To produce a bare-metal restore image that you can restore later using the installation CD, follow these steps:

  1. Start your Windows Server 2008 computer.
  2. Start by pressing the Start button.
  3. Go to Administrative Tools and choose it.
  4. Select Windows Server Backup from the menu.

Follow these procedures to recover your Windows Server 2008 from the produced bare metal image.

  1. In the disc tray, place the Windows Server 2008 CD.
  2. Startup your PC.
  3. Start by booting from the CD.
  4. Choose a language, time zone, and keyboard on the Install Windows screen.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Select Computer Repair from the drop-down menu.
  7. Select Restore your machine using a system image that you produced earlier from the System Recovery Options box.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Select Select a system image backup from the Select a system image backup menu.
  10. Next should be selected.

  13. Finish by clicking the Finish button.
  14. When the warning message appears, select Yes.

Create a Windows Server 2012 recovery disk

Windows Server 2012, like Windows Server 2008, includes the Windows Server Backup program, which allows you to build a bare-metal image that you can subsequently recover from.
