The Ultimate Guide to RSS & TV Torrents

Here we can see, “The Ultimate Guide to RSS & TV Torrents”

RSS Torrent Feeds is one of BitTorrent’s newest and most intriguing capabilities. It allows you to automate the process of discovering, downloading fully, and launching torrent downloads to your movie folder, then finishing the download and seeding it to a certain ratio once correctly configured.

To keep things simple and accessible to everyone, we’ll be using freeware clients (uTorrent), services, and public trackers in this walkthrough.

We’ll use Torrent (the web’s tiniest, no-install client!) to download the most recent episodes of 24, Desperate Housewives, and, of course, LOST.

  1. Get the most recent version (or the most recent Beta if it’s available and you’re up to it) from the official Torrent site’s page.
  2. Run the exe by saving it to C:\Program FilesuTorrent.
  3. It will ask you to create shortcuts on the first run, and then it will ask you for your current network upload speed. Tell it what you’re looking for, and then accept the settings.
  4. We need to see if the shows we want to watch have an “unofficial” TV Torrent RSS, so go to http://tvrss.net/shows/ and see if Desperate Housewives, 24, and LOST are among the shows mentioned. They are, and you may click on them to learn more about them, including which feeds they are available on.
  5. We’ll now set up Torrent to get show information from an RSS feed.
  6. To begin, go to Options | RSS. To add a new feed, click “Add.” Enter “tvRSS|http://tvrss.net/legacy/unique/” without the quotations in the field below.
  7. Press OK, then “Add” once more, this time typing in “VTV|http://tvrss.net/feed/vtv/” in the box. Select OK.
  8. To set up the RSS feeds, go to the “Favorites” tab and then “Add” on the page that appears.
  9. Enter “24” in the text box that appears, then click anywhere on the page.
  10. Put the words “24” in the “Filter” box.
    • Browse to the location where you want 24 to be downloaded in the “Save in:” box.
    • Select one of the feeds we configured earlier under “Feed”: EZTV or VTV. EZTV comes highly recommended by me.
    • Select the type of video resolution you desire by clicking the “Quality: All” button or list. HR-HDTV is available on EZTV, but not on VTV, so make sure you don’t choose a feed that isn’t available!
    • We don’t want to specify an episode number for 24 because we want them as soon as they’re available (don’t worry, old shows won’t make this list!).
    • Select “Smart ep. filter” from the drop-down menu, then “Minimum Interval” and “(Match only once)” from the drop-down menu.
    • After that, change the label to “TV Shows.”
  11. Do the same with LOST and Desperate Housewives. It would look like this for LOST:
  12. Now we’ll set up Torrent to run every time the machine boots up, so it’s always looking for new episodes. Torrent checks for new releases every 10 minutes, so you should be able to start downloading right away if Torrent is up and operating.
    • Go to Options Menu | Preferences from the main Torrent panel, and check “Start Torrent on system startup” there.
    • Minimize by pressing “OK.”
  13. You’ve completed the task! You’re good to go as long as you don’t accidentally turn off Torrent, and you’ll always have the freshest and greatest TV torrents!

User Questions

1. Is RSS capable of transmission?

Transmission-rss is a workaround for Transmission’s inability to monitor RSS feeds and add contained torrent links automatically. Transmission-daemon and transmission-gtk are supported (if the web frontend is enabled in the settings dialog).

2. Is RSS still in use today?

Is it still in use on the internet? Both yes and no. RSS feeds are still around (more on that later), but they aren’t as popular as they used to be. For following sites, viewing feeds and learning about the latest news, social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and others have become the go-to alternative.

3. What exactly is an RSS feed?

An RSS feed is a collection of instructions stored on a website’s computer server and delivered to a subscriber’s RSS reader, or aggregator, upon request. The feed notifies the reader when new content has been published on the website, such as a news item, a blog post, or an audio or video clip.
