OPPO has unveiled its take on foldable phone design, and while it’s a little late to the game, the OPPO Find N appears to have something unique to offer. On the other hand, Huawei has been at this game for two years and has yet to demonstrate anything innovative. That could change with the company’s next “winter flagship,” although it may not be all foldable phone lovers have hoped for.
Huawei is developing its foldable phone to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip. The Mate V was believed to be the name of this new product. However, it appears that will not be the case. The business has been teasing an impending “Huawei P50 Pocket” smartphone, and it has almost confirmed that it will be a flip phone.
The P50 Pocket’s design, which looks a little like the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the new Motorola Razr, is revealed in the latest teaser on Chinese social media platform Weibo. The most noticeable change is the textured back, which is most likely intended to conjure visions of snow, ice, and the winter season. Of course, it’s unclear whether it’ll be available in other colours.
There isn’t much else known about the model at this time, but the “Huawei P50” moniker brings with it some expectations. The gadget is said to have top-of-the-line hardware, including a Snapdragon 888 engine and 8 to 12 GB of RAM. This hardware would put the gadget on a level with the Galaxy Z Flip 3, but Huawei should go even further.
It may be unrealistic to anticipate the foldable having the same cameras like the Huawei P50, which would add significant bulk to the device. The relationship with Huawei’s flagship, on the other hand, could be due to the design of the back cameras, which the company’s teasers cleverly avoid exposing. According to other leaks, such as these from @COMMUNITY EMUI, the central camera bump will have two large circles, one of which will not have any cameras at all.

The Huawei P50 Pocket’s circular display nearly makes sense since it would deliver a comfortable smartwatch-like experience that many people are already familiar with. It is, however, more cramped than the cover display of the Galaxy Z Flip 3. We won’t have to wait long since the Huawei P50 Pocket will be released next week, on December 23, just in time for the holidays.
