Speedrunner Beats The Entire Game In Less Than An Hour In Pokémon Shining Pearl

Even though the game is just two weeks old, Werster, a speedrunner, has defeated Pokémon Shining Pearl in under an hour.

A Pokémon Shining Pearl player completed the game in just over fifty minutes, setting a new record for the freshly launched game. This incredible achievement is one of the numerous game-record-breaking speedruns, often accomplished via flaws and cunning workarounds.

Pokémon Shining Pearl and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond are remakes of the popular Nintendo DS titles Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl. With a few new features like Ramana’s Park, which contains legendary Pokémon, these new versions preserve most of the content from their 2006 predecessors. Other improvements to the user experience include an autosave feature and speedier leveling. Although the remakes have a completely updated art style and some re-recorded audio tracks, the originals’ plot and basic gameplay mechanics remain the major focus. Both games have to be rebuilt from the ground up as a result of this.

With a brand-new game comes brand-new glitches, which Werster, a Youtuber and speedrunner, took advantage of to complete Shining Pearl in under an hour. Werster begins the speedrun by skipping the opening cutscene and character creation to choose Piplup as his starter Pokémon. He then takes advantage of a menu flaw to skip through large game sections, including popular features like Shining Pearl’s fishing option. Throughout the speedrun, Werster makes frequent use of this menu glitch and variations of it. He also appears to have used a bug that disables attack animations, which saves a lot of time during battles. Werster gleefully skips through the game’s last boss and cruises to the finish line at the end of the speedrun.

It would take far too long to go into all of the bugs and strategies that Werster employed to set this new record, but suffice to say that this feat necessitated a thorough technical mastery of the game. Shining Pearl can take up to thirty hours to complete, and thus Werster’s time of fifty minutes and 36 seconds is quite remarkable. Following the success of a blindfolded Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice speedrun video earlier this year, a blindfolded Shining Pearl speedrun could be just what’s required to usurp Werster’s bragging rights.

When it comes to Shining Pearl speedruns, Werster is currently the reigning champion. While most Pokémon fans would never want to miss out on all of the features these games offer, it’s still fun to witness a good player fool the game like this. Because Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are still new games, it will take some time to see if Werster’s record can be surpassed.

The Nintendo Switch games Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl are now available.
