What is a local user account and why do you need them?

A local user account is essentially a discrete operating system instance with its own configurations, applications, and, most importantly, specific administrative permissions.

In other words, as the system administrator, you can set up several local accounts for several users while also limiting their ability to manage certain resources.

You may, for instance, forbid them from installing apps or impose restrictions. This is crucial when you create a local account for your children or other family members.

It is therefore, better to have a separate account for each family member if you share a computer. Everyone will have their own privacy, and you will prevent clutter.

To clear some space when purchasing a second computer, you must remove that person’s account from the first one. You’ll see how to do that in the guide below.

What is the difference between a Microsoft account and a local account?

By logging in with a Microsoft account, you may access all the connected Microsoft services, including Outlook, the Microsoft Store, Xbox, Hotmail, and OneDrive.
