When trying to line up FaceTime over cellular, I want a private hotspot or eligible data plan. I even have unlimited data. There’s another iPhone on the account which doesn’t have a personal hotspot, yet it can use FaceTime over cellular.

FaceTime and iMessage on iPhones both require an online connection to figure correctly. If you’re unable to use either of those features without a mobile data connection, there’s a couple of things we will do to fix the problem!
- From a Home screen on your Apple® iPhone®, tap the Settings Settings icon.
- Note If an app isn’t available on your Home screen, swipe left to access the App Library.
- Tap Cellular.
- Tap the FaceTime switch to show the cellular data usage on turn on or offcut.
iMessages, on the opposite hand, doesn’t have a switch for mobile data. If you’re unable to send messages over mobile data, it’s going to indicate you’re experiencing mobile data issues.
