Microsoft has been trying for years to make Windows users use a Microsoft account to set it up. One instance saw the company using Dark Patterns to conceal the fact that they could set it up using a local account.
PCWorld now reports that this trickery will no longer be necessary as Windows 11 Home won’t allow users to install the OS without logging into a Microsoft account.
They write:
According to a source close to Microsoft, Windows 11 Pro is the best way to avoid an MSA. Our source says that users who purchase or own Windows 11 Pro PCs can choose either a local account or an MSA right from the beginning of the installation process.
According to them, once users have been set up, they will still create a local account. Still, likely, Microsoft has already obtained your hardware ID and other identifying information.
Windows 11 Pro users won’t be subject to the same restrictions.
