Sony has decided to skip E3 2021 once more. In recent years, this has been the trend at Sony. Instead, they have created their showcase that focuses exclusively on the news about PlayStation consoles and gaming. Although Sony has yet to make any announcements about the new PlayStation Showcase, there is a rumour that a new State of Play will soon be revealed for gamers.
Since 2019, Sony has used the PlayStation Showcase format. Each State of Play highlights the latest PlayStation titles and updates. The release date for The Last of Us Part 2 was revealed at previous State of Play events. New gameplay was also released for Ratchet & Clank, Rift Apart, and Ghost of Tsushima. The latest State of Play was held at the end of May. Additionally, a segment was dedicated to new Horizon Forbidden west gameplay.
Sony has not yet revealed a date for the State of Play. Therefore, rumours circulating online about any possible event aren’t very reliable. Sony may have an entirely different date in mind for the State of Play, or it might not be a large-scale event. Nevertheless, something may be in the making, despite Sony’s inactivity at E3 and minimal participation in Summer Game Fest.
Sony’s PlayStation Showcase Date Potential
According to the latest gossip, the PlayStation Showcase will be presented on Thursday, July 8. Reddit leaker QuimStix commented that one of his sources had revealed plans for a July 8 party. QuimStix advised readers to “take it with a grain, salt,” but said that his source was reliable because they had previously been proven correct about other rumoured leaks.
It makes sense that the July date is chosen since Sony usually presents a State of Play showcase in the summer months. The prediction of a Thursday presentation is a further step in the process. This is the day that Sony typically holds its presentations. The State of Play events is held every few months. With the last one being in May, a July presentation fulfils this trend.
It remains to be seen if Sony will announce this date as the official State of the Playdate or wait until later in the year. When the showcase takes place, PS5 and PS4 players will most likely receive updates about upcoming titles. This includes the delayed God of War Ragnarok and the Death Stranding: Director’s Cut, which was announced at Summer Game Fest. Sony may have some new games, but PlayStation gamers will need to wait until the State of Play event, which is expected to occur in the coming weeks.
