Pinterest rolls out new Watch tab amid PayPal acquisition rumors

Pinterest, the pin-based social media platform, has unveiled many new features, including a new Watch feed that provides rapid access to swipeable video content. The feed collects content from Idea Pins and presents it in a full-screen format, allowing users to browse and interact with the content quickly they’re likely to appreciate based on how they use the site.

The new Pinterest Watch feed is essentially the company’s own Stories feature, and it’s comparable to what you’d see on Snapchat, TikTok, and YouTube. A small menu of options for viewing and leaving comments, ‘liking’ the pin, sharing, and more are linked to the full-screen experience.

If you live in a market where Idea Pins is available, the new Watch feed option will appear in the Pinterest iOS and Android app. The new functionality comes amid speculations that PayPal is considering acquiring the social media platform, but no such agreement has been revealed yet.

PayPal is said to have made a $45 billion offer to buy Pinterest, according to Reuters. That’s according to “people familiar with the situation,” yet neither business has responded to the notion. The staggering sum would represent a new high in terms of social media platform acquisitions, albeit whether such a deal will go through remains to be seen.

According to the article, PayPal’s interest in Pinterest could be related to the platform’s e-commerce capabilities, as the site has launched several online buying experiences in recent years. According to the paper’s sources, PayPal is reportedly seeking to reach an agreement by the time it releases its next quarterly financial report on November 8.
