Netgear has an alternative for you if you’re seeking a new WiFi 6E mesh internet solution. The Orbi Quad-band WiFi 6E Mesh System offers newly available 6GHz WiFi internet “throughout the home” (in specified locations of the world). This is the router and mesh internet system to acquire if you want to be prepared for the future – or the present if you’re one of the few people with WiFi 6E connectivity.
The Orbi Quad-band Mesh WiFi System from Netgear replaces the brand’s previous most potent mesh system, the Orbi Tri-Band WiFi 6 system. To make use of the newly available 6GHz WiFi, this new system adds a fourth band.
This router supports up to 10 Gigabits of bandwidth, ensuring that the customer is prepared for “the fastest internet speed accessible now or shortly.” In addition, this mesh system can handle 16 WiFi streams at 2.4, 5, and 6GHz, which is “the maximum specification accessible.”
The extra bands available with this new router system, according to Netgear, will assist devices running on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi frequencies. In addition, according to Netgear, “thanks to the system’s enhanced WiFi radio and antenna designs,” these devices would see “an improvement in coverage and increased speeds up to 30%.” When compared to the Tri-band Orbi, this is a significant difference (RBK850).
To use the 6GHz WiFi that this router/mesh system supports, the user must access an internet provider that supports the 6GHz band. Users must also have devices that can connect to the band. WiFi 6E is supported on the Samsung Galaxy S21. WiFi 6E is also supported by the Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G, ASUS ZenFone 8, Xiaomi Mi 11, Dell Latitude 5520, Lenovo Thinkpad T14, Intel WiFi 6E PCIe cards, and the Samsung Neo QLED 8K TV.
The Netgear Orbi Quad-band Mesh WiFi System will come in a variety of configurations. One with code RBKE963 will cost $1499.99 MSRP and come with one router and two satellites. Another set, code RBKE693B, costs the same and includes two satellites and one “Orbi Black Edition” router. An add-on satellite (RBSE960) can be purchased separately for $599 MSRP. Starting today, pre-orders for this mesh internet system will be available.
This isn’t surprising, given that the world’s first WiFi 6E router was introduced with a price tag of more than USD 500. But, unfortunately, that was in January of 2021, and the expense of technology doesn’t appear to be decreasing any time soon!
