Over the years, there have been many smartwatches and smartwatch manufacturers, but only a few have truly stood out. Mobvoi is a well-known brand in the Wear OS market, with its TicWatch offering a good balance of features and battery life, thanks to its dual-screen strategy. It was also one of the first and remained one of the few smartwatch manufacturers to use Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon Wear chipsets. The Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS could solidify that position next week.
The hardware of the TicWatch Pro 3 was its claim to fame, as it was the first to use Qualcomm’s most recent wearable platform, while the rest of the Wear OS crowd was stuck with the Snapdragon Wear 3100 or, worse, 2100. So when Samsung began to dominate Wear OS news, it was hoped that Mobvoi would be one of the first, if not the first, to promise a Wear OS 3 upgrade or, at the very least, release a new model running the latest software version. The latter appears to be happening, but not in the way that those individuals had hoped.
There have been rumours and sightings of a TicWatch Pro 3 GPS “Ultra” refresh, and the company has now confirmed that this is the case. Mobvoi named the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS available on or after October 13 in a tweet promoting its upcoming launch. But, unfortunately, it also doesn’t go into great detail about what that smartwatch would bring to the table.

It did, however, recently introduce the TicWatch Pro X in China, which appeared to be a minor upgrade over the current flagship model. It was hoped to be powered by the Snapdragon Wear 4100+ processor, but that may not be the case. Improved heart monitoring is also expected, but we’ll have to wait and see how that works out.
Of course, the most pressing question is whether it will run Wear OS 3 out of the box. There’s a very slim chance it will, given that even the new Fossil Gen 6 didn’t. At the very least, Mobvoi could follow in the footsteps of Fossil and promise a major software upgrade in 2022. Otherwise, until the first Mobvoi Wear OS 3 smartwatch is released, this Ultra smartwatch won’t have much to offer.
