The newest King of Fighters character has her trailer, which features her unique and flashy moveset and a surprising teammate.
The skills and team of The King of Fighters XV‘s new character Dolores have been revealed in a gameplay trailer, which was first seen during PlayStation’s October State of Play conference. KOF XV was first announced at Evo 2019, but specifics immediately became scarce, leaving fans in the franchise’s online fanbase concerned about the game’s future. As the fighting game’s February release approaches, a steady stream of character reveals and gameplay trailers have begun to filter in.
Over the last three decades, SNK has developed and published several successful fighting game titles, including Fatal Fury and Samurai Shodown. On the other hand, the King of Fighters has been the franchise’s most successful to date. It’s one of the most prolific fighting games, alongside Street Fighter and Tekken, with over thirty titles encompassing its main entries and spinoffs. Guests appearances by SNK characters in other games, such as Terry Bogard in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Geese Howard in Tekken 7, have helped the company sustain significant interest in its games in recent years.
Following the PlayStation State of Play announcement, SNK released a new King of Fighters 15 clip on YouTube, detailing Dolores’ moveset and the squad and providing a closer look at the character’s distinctive strikes. Dolores looks and fights like a formidable sorceress, with her sleek white and purple hair and white tattoos. During many of Dolores’ special and super movies, the new character appears to have power over a stone golem with blazing red eyes that peeks out from underground behind her. Dolores’ control over the golem extends the range of several of her techniques, including those that use stone missiles to assault and imprison adversaries.
In King of Fighters 15, Isla is part of Dolores’ team, and an intriguing decision rounds off the trio. Heidern, a longtime member of Team Ikari and another recently revealed KOF XV character, was the third member of the franchise’s recurrent Team Rival. In each installment, this squad serves as an adversarial counterpart to Team Hero, which is always made up of three heroes. Shun’ei, the primary protagonist of the previous series game, leads Team Hero in KOF XV.
The initial character reveals a teaser for Dolores also teased the impending King of Fighters XV open beta in November. The KOF XV roster is slowly approaching completion, with character 33 out of 39 listed. With only six spaces remaining to fill, franchise fans are crossing their fingers that other favorites from previous installments will be included. With only four months till release, The King of Fighters XV is shaping up to be one of SNK’s most eagerly awaited games in years.
On February 17, 2022, The King of Fighters XV will be released for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PC.
