Galaxy S21 FE might have just been canceled

Many companies have initially downplayed the consequences of the continued chip supply crisis on their plans, but even the likes of chip giant Intel and foundry TSMC have had to give in. Things are going great for Samsung, but it eventually had to chop out what would are this year’s Galaxy Note 21. It seems that it won’t be the sole casualty, and despite its best efforts, the Galaxy S21 FE may need to be scrapped in favour of the Galaxy Z Flip 3.

To be clear, the report coming from South Korea only claims that Samsung has cancelled the event that might have announced the Galaxy S21 FE. No date has been given for it thus far, but the corporate spokesperson says it had been scheduled for mid-October. Although Samsung has launched new phones without much fuss or fanfare, it’s implied that the Galaxy S21 FE is likewise being scrapped.

Those following the phone’s unofficial story wouldn’t be so shocked if Samsung did plan to cancel this year’s Fan Edition. Right from the beginning, the Galaxy S21 FE’s production has been troubled, partly due to the very fact that it might be competing for precious and limited resources, just like the Snapdragon 888 chip. Samsung already delayed its production by a couple of months, consistent with some sources, and only produced around 10,000 units thus far, consistent with others.

The report now blames the Galaxy S21 FE’s demise on the Galaxy Z Flip 3, Samsung’s cheaper foldable phone. The phone is reportedly selling too well that Samsung isn’t ready to continue with the demand. This can force the corporate to reconsider its priorities, and therefore the cheaper Galaxy S flagship didn’t cut.

Samsung hasn’t confirmed this report, of course, and it’d still launch the Galaxy S21 FE as a real edition, counting on what percentage units it did manage to form thus far. This does leave the corporate in a rather awkward position of not having a flagship phone for the last half of the year. But, if the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is selling that well, it could take that spot, and therefore the Galaxy S22 could be but four months away.
