TikTok’s parent company ByteDance has made TikTok AI that powers user recommendations available for purchase.
Why is TikTok so beloved? Almost anyone can now determine.
TikTok Secret Formula Now Available to Other Companies
According to the Financial Times, TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance in China, is now selling AI from the video app to other companies.
ByteDance quietly created a new division, BytePlus, sometime in June. BytePlus recommended gives companies the ability to access TikTok’s recommendation algorithm, allowing them to tailor it to their products and services.
TikTok is not BytePlus, only a customer. Its official website lists businesses worldwide, including those from America, Singapore, and Indonesia.
ByteDance’s decision not to make TikTok AI available for purchase could significantly impact which apps are most popular in the social media space. But, TikTok’s video suggestions are the feature that users love most.
Other offerings by BytePlus include:
- Translate – Machine translations of text or speech
- Effects – Real-time, Augmented Reality Video Effects
- DataPlayer and DataTester – Data analysis and management tools
What’s New With TikTok?
Shouzi Chew, ByteDance’s CFO, was elected TikTok’s new CEO in May. The corporate has made some moves that you might find interesting if you are a regular app user.
TikTok’s privacy policy was updated in June to include biometric information to the extensive list of knowledge it automatically collects from users.
TikTok has decided to host more than just short-form video content. The corporate announced that TikTok now allows for a maximum video length of three minutes instead of 60 seconds.
How Other Social Media Apps Have Tried to Chase TikTok
Despite the controversy surrounding TikTok’s launch in September 2016, its popularity is undeniable. According to BusinessOfApps, TikTok’s monthly user count is 689 million.
The algorithm behind TikTok’s recommendations is likely to be one of the most important, if not the largest, reasons for the video app’s great success. As a result, we may soon see prominent tech names take ByteDance at the forefront of this new offer.
Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and YouTube Shorts are TikTok’s most crucial competition right now. But only time will tell if either one will win.
TikTok’s launch also brought several copycat apps to the market, like Facebook Collab and Clash. (Funnily enough, those two were able to compete with TikTok in January when Clash purchased Byte).
