The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy are compared by Digital Foundry, and both platforms perform admirably.

A knowledgeable tech specialist recently compared the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Fans and critics alike praised Square Enix and Eidos-sci-fi Montréal’s superhero adventure for combining the rock-fueled antics of the Guardians of the Galaxy films with a well-written story – all of which allows players to shape the ongoing narrative as Peter “Star-Lord” Quill leads his lovable band of outlaws on a quest to save the Marvel Universe from a variety of interplanetary threats.

Because developer Eidos-Montréal chose the Dawn Engine from Deus Ex: Mankind Divided instead of the Foundation game engine that generated 2020’s Marvel’s Avengers, the technical execution of Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy has been a recent topic of criticism. The game takes up around 150 GB of storage space on PC, according to a Steam listing for Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, although Eidos-Montréal later stated that this isn’t the truth. Meanwhile, some console gamers are curious about how well Marvel’s latest game will operate on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

According to Eurogamer, Digital Foundry’s Thomas Morgan recently examined the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy to see how well the game performs in different graphical settings on both systems. In a new video on the Digital Foundry YouTube channel, Morgan explains that both versions of Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy are graphically excellent – except a few technical glitches – and have the same graphics settings. On the PS5 and Xbox Series X, the 1,920 by 1,080 pixels, 60 FPS Performance Mode, and 3,840 by 2,160 pixels, 30 FPS Quality Mode operate similarly. However, Morgan claims that during combat or other graphically demanding situations, the former mode’s framerate decreases to the low 50s or perhaps the upper 40s. In addition, the Xbox Series S lacks the higher framerate modes of its beefier console cousin and is prone to LOD pop-in on occasion.

Digital Foundry has previously commented on video game graphics, such as the team’s examination of technological advances in Halo Infinite’s multiplayer beta test in August or a comparison of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5 and PC before the game’s infamously divided release last November. The great brains at Digital Foundry also do interesting gaming experiments such as running Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on vintage CRT box monitors or speculating on whether the much-rumored but still unannounced Nintendo Switch can genuinely pull off 4K DLSS graphics as many have speculated.

Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy is a visual spectacle on any system, evidenced by how close the game runs on both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. However, Digital Foundry noted that the match faltered on the Xbox Series S, implying that players who want to push Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy to its limits with 60 FPS will need a beefier console.
