Surprise! Surprise! Although not officially announced by Square Enix nor developer Eidos, the patch adds support for 4K at high frame rates on PlayStation 5 in high-resolution mode.

Xbox gamers have good news. Reddit users Lara who are keenly observant, have discovered that the game, released in 2018 for last-generation tech, has been retagged by the official store as “optimized to Xbox Series X/S.”
This is apparently in addition to and separate from the Xbox “FPS boost” upgrade, which had already improved the framerate of various back-compat titles back in May, including Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Although it is unclear what this could mean for action-adventure games, OP thiccadam speculates that they are “preparing the patch for this week.” This is because Microsoft “updated Series X optimization tags a few days before the patch for A Plague Tale of Innocence.” Unfortunately, it’s not optimized yet, so I redownloaded it. I would expect better lighting and perhaps some raytracing, though.” (Thanks, Eurogamer).
What about the movies? The future Tomb Raider games are reportedly set after the classic 90s films and will “unify the original story” with the 2013 reboot trilogy.
Will Kerslake, the game director, explained in a video that Crystal Dynamics announced the 25th-anniversary celebrations. “Crystal Dynamics’] Origin Trilogy back in 2013 told Lara’s story […] whereas the classic games featured a confident and experienced adventurer who traveled the globe, finding its secrets, and often stood alone against cataclysmic powers.”
Kerslake teased that “We see the future Tomb Raider unfolding following these established adventures, telling stories which build upon both Core Design’s breadth and Crystal Dynamics’ games, working together to unify these timelines.”
ICYMI, Netflix has announced that a Tomb Raider anime series will be made. It will take place after the events of Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The sequel to the 2018 film is also available. It was recently announced that Lovecraft County’s MishaGreen would be writing and directing the series after Ben Wheatley left the project.
