Google has announced its next-gen Nest security cameras and Doorbell. In total, the corporate has announced three new Nest cams and one new Doorbell.
The new Nest products are a big departure from Google’s previous Nest cameras, with the corporate now offering a connected floodlight camera and a battery-powered camera.
New Battery-Powered Nest Camera for Outdoor Use
Priced at $179.99, the new Nest Cam is Google’s first battery-powered camera for indoor or outdoor use featuring on-device Processing. The Nest Cam with floodlight is that the company’s first connected floodlight camera priced at $279.99. Both security cameras feature night-sight, 6x zoom, and HDR.
Then, there’s the second-gen Nest Cam—the successor to the first Nest Cam. At $99.99, it’s Google‘s cheapest Nest Cam ever. Lastly, the battery-operated Nest Doorbell is Google’s first-ever Doorbell with a tall field of view so that you’ll get a full view of the person standing at your front entrance. It’s priced at $179.99.
All the battery-powered Nest products feature a built-in rechargeable battery.
For greater flexibility, users will have the choice to power the battery-operated Nest Cam and Nest Doorbell directly. the corporate also will sell additional accessories for its new Nest products like weatherproof cables, anti-theft mount, tabletop stand with an influence cord, and more.
On-Device Processing for New Nest Products
All the new Nest products feature on-device Processing for another layer of privacy and security. They will process the recorded footage to detect events and objects, including people, animals, and package delivery, and send relevant notifications when required.
Previously, this functionality required a Nest Aware subscription, but with on-device Processing on the next-gen Nest products, which will not be the case. A Nest Aware subscription will unlock additional features like 24/7 continuous video history on wired Nest Cams, familiar face detection, and event video history for up to 30 or 60 days.
The new battery-powered Nest cameras, Nest Cam with floodlight, and Nest Doorbell feature local storage for additional reliability. This suggests that if there is a power failure or the Wi-Fi is down, the camera or Doorbell can still record an hour’s worth of events, which translates to a few weeks of usage.
Since the second-gen Nest Cam isn’t battery-powered, it can only record events to its local storage when the Wi-Fi is down. Once the facility or Wi-Fi is back, the recorded footage is uploaded to the cloud, so you’ll view it remotely.
All the new Nest products also integrate with the Google Home app, so you’ll easily view and control them from one app.
Nest Cam and Doorbell Available for Pre-Order
Google is offering the new Nest Cam and Nest Doorbell in several nature-inspired colors within the US. In addition, all the newest Nest products are made with recycled materials. Therefore, the battery-powered Nest Cam and the Nest Doorbell are already available for pre-order on the Google Store and continue sale on August 24.
Therefore, the Nest Cam with floodlight and the second-gen Nest Cam is listed as “coming soon” on the Google Store.
