Google Pixel Foldable Device With Codename 'Pipit' Seen On Geekbench

For the first time, the codename Pipit and other details for the next Google Pixel Foldable smartphone have appeared on Geekbench.

On the Geekbench benchmarking platform, a strange Google smartphone has debuted, and it could be the long-awaited Google Pixel foldable. Google, like other businesses, is rumored to be considering a move into the foldable smartphone market in 2021. That, however, did not occur. Instead, several rumors and reports regarding the incoming Google Pixel foldable smartphone in the third quarter of 2021, implying that it would run on the same chipset as the Google Pixel 6 series.

When patents for a folding device from Google leaked on the internet in 2019, it was first reported that the corporation was working on one. Google has also recently announced Android 12L, a variant of Android 12 geared for larger screens. The release of Android 12L was interpreted as a harbinger of the Google Pixel Fold’s impending arrival. However, that did not occur. Because Google used a foldable smartphone in advertising graphics for the Google Android 12L, it was assumed that the firm would introduce a foldable gadget shortly.

On January 7, 2022, the Google Pixel foldable, or the Google Pipit, as the Geekbench 4 listing says, appeared for a benchmark test. As 9To5Google reported in November 2021, this might be the Pixel foldable that the firm is rumored to be working on. The codename Pipit was suggested for the future foldable Pixel phone. The codename was discovered in data connected to the current version of the Google Camera app by the publication’s APK Insight Team. Given that the Google smartphone on Geekbench 4 has the same name as the future Pixel foldable smartphone, it’s safe to assume that the Google Pipit is the impending Pixel foldable smartphone. Many details about the smartphone have been revealed thanks to the Geekbench listing.

According to the listing, the smartphone runs Android 12 and has an octa-core processor with a base clock of 1.80 GHz. Furthermore, the Google Pipit received 4,811 points in the single-core test and 11,349 in the multi-core test. On the other hand, the Google Pixel 6 scored 4,758 points on the same benchmarking platform in the single-core test and 11,038 points in the multi-core test. However, the Google Pipit device used in the test had 12GB of RAM, while the Google Pixel 6 device had 8GB. Therefore, based on the results, the Google Pixel foldable (or Google Pipit) will function similarly to the Google Pixel 6.

It’s crucial to note that the first Geekbench results do not reflect the final product’s performance. Several firms do tests throughout the early phases of product development. Thus the Google Pixel foldable could reappear on the benchmarking platform with improved results. According to a primary source, the Google Pixel foldable would use camera sensors from the Pixel 5, released in 2020. Nonetheless, Google’s Pixel foldable entry on Geekbench shows that the gadget is in the works and might be released soon.
