Satechi’s latest USB-C adapter has a built-in M.2 SSD slot

Satechi has launched a new USB-C adaptor, and it’s a beast. Though its formal name – the Satechi USB-C Hybrid Multiport Converter – may be a little dull, the adapter itself is anything but. AS EXPECTED, the USB-C adapter has several connections, but it also has something we’re not used to seeing on these types of products: An M.2 port.

Yes, you can insert an M.2 SATA SSD into this new USB-C adaptor, allowing you to take M.2 storage with you. That’s an enticing proposition for someone who needs constant access to portable storage. If you’re going to use a multiport adaptor anyhow, it beats bringing a thumb drive with you.

In any case, the USB-C Hybrid Multiport Adapter from Satechi includes:

  • A 4K HDMI display output.
  • USB-C PD charging.
  • Two USB-A 3.0 ports in addition to the USB-C port that will connect to your device.

The built-in M.2 slot supports up to 5Gbps transfer speeds. However, the adapter does not include an M.2 drive, which must be purchased separately.

According to Satechi, the adapter’s 4K HDMI output offers a frame rate of 60Hz, while the USB-C PD charging connector can give up to 100W of power, with 15W saved for the hub itself. Overall, it sounds like a solid addition, especially if you can use that M.2 slot.

That increased capability comes at a cost, as the USB-C Hybrid Multiport Adapter from Satechi costs $89.99. The adapter is now available in space grey and black via Satechi’s website and Amazon.
