Samsung One UI 4.0 will bring RAM Plus to more phones

Samsung insisted on doing things its way to set itself apart from the rest of the Android world. However, it has recently taken a more collaborative approach, resulting in a back-and-forth between its customized experiences and Google’s preferred flavor. Some have even compared Android 12’s new aesthetic to Samsung’s One UI. However, it appears that comparison is valid, as One UI 4.0 embraces Material You, at least in concept, and a feature that Android itself should adopt for everyone.

Material You is Google’s brand name for a new theming system that has recently become popular on a variety of platforms, including Windows 11‘s “Mica material.” In a nutshell, this means that the system’s UI color scheme will be derived from the wallpaper you’ve chosen, resulting in a better visual match between the phone’s various elements. This is one of Android 12’s highlights, and the second One UI 4.0 beta appears to follow suit, whether directly based on Material You or with Samsung’s spin.

One UI 4.0, on the other hand, is expected to introduce yet another, and most likely larger, new feature. RAM Plus is Samsung’s version of the RAM expansion technique that OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi have begun to use, giving the phone an extra 4GB of RAM taken from the internal storage. This gives phones with 6GB or 8GB RAM a significant performance boost for multitasking and handling apps.

In the second beta of Samsung’s upcoming skin, a mic mode for video calls has been added. In addition to the usual bug fixes, such as those for Secure Folder, the list of changes also mentions improved typing accuracy for Samsung Keyboard.

The One UI 4.0 beta program is only available in a few countries for the Galaxy S21 series. Hopefully, the RAM Plus feature will be available to all phones that receive the stable version of the update. Outside of the One UI 4.0 beta, only the Galaxy A52s 5G, Galaxy A52 5G, and Galaxy Z Fold 3 have received this RAM expansion.
