Apple is preparing for the release of new MacBook Air M4 devices based on the M4 chip in early 2025, while production should begin shortly. New Air M4 models will incorporate several internal improvements and will come in 13 inches and 15 inches sizes, while maintaining the same design as the Air M4.
Key Features and Upgrades:
- 16GB RAM as Standard: After the M3 MacBook Air came with 16GB base RAM, the MacBook Air M4 models will also come with improved RAM for multitasking and professional use.
- Improved Camera: The Air M4 will come with a 12MP camera with Centre Stage and Desk View compatibility. These are enhancements that are meant to enhance video conferencing by providing a feature that maintains the user in the center while providing a wider view for working and presentations.
- Display and Design: The Air M4 will retain the same 13-inch and 15-inch sizes and the notch design will also be retained, but the slim and lightweight design of the Air M4 will remain as a major selling point.
“What is remaining the same?”
- M4 Chip Performance:
The upcoming M4 chip will bring better performance, but it is expected that MacBook Air will not be focused on raw power, which makes it different from the MacBook Pro line.
- Performance and Battery Life: The MacBook Air will be equipped with the M4 chip which will be optimized for efficiency rather than for power. Of course, just like all Macs that utilize Apple’s M-series chips, the MacBook Air M4 is also going to be very efficient when it comes to battery life.

Connectivity and Ports: Look for the usual suspects: two Thunderbolt ports and, of course, the MagSafe charging. In the MacBook Air M4, Apple will keep up with the reliability and simplicity of the connectivity features.
After the MacBook Air M4, the company will turn its attention to its powerful Mac desktops. The Mac Studio is expected to be released at some time between March and June 2025 and the device will use either the M4 Ultra or M4 Max chips and these deliver significant performance enhancements. Also, there will be one or two Thunderbolt ports in Mac Studio and this will probably be the Thunderbolt 5 hence faster data transfer and connectivity.
In the later part of 2025, Apple will launch a new Mac Pro, not the M3 generation but the M4 Ultra chip. Known by its development name as “Hydra”, this chip could feature up to 32 CPU cores and 80 GPU cores, which is double of what the M4 Max is capable of. The Mac Pro shall also come with up to 512 GB of unified memory which is a big improvement from the current 192 GB and will be a valuable asset to professionals who need the machine to deliver best performance.
