Finally, a PlayStation Discord connection appears to be in the horizon

According to recent leaks, PlayStation’s previously anticipated Discord integration may be coming shortly, while no official date has been given.

PlayStation’s previously mentioned Discord integration appears to be on the way. After Microsoft backed away from its negotiations with Discord last April, Sony announced that it would engage in a relationship with the popular media chat platform. Discord was founded in 2015 and allows users to chat via text, video call, and voice call. Over 140 million monthly active users have used the service in the last few years.

While playing games like Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto Online, Discord allows users to build online communities, join player groups, and talk with their pals. Early this year, PlayStation CEO and President Jim Ryan revealed that his business planned to introduce Discord support to PlayStation platforms, especially when Sony announced that the PlayStation 4’s Communities feature would be discontinued shortly after the relationship with Discord was announced. As a result, Sony Interactive Entertainment made a minority investment in Discord’s Series H round and engaged with Discord co-founders Jason Citron and Stan Vishnevskiy to seek a collaboration with the company.

According to MP1st, multiple Reddit users have discovered indicators of PlayStation’s Discord connection being launched on Discord’s backend sooner rather than later. Last month, on r/discordapp, user jankesjt uploaded a screenshot of the PlayStation logo among the various services. Discord can connect to, and on r/GamingLeaksAndRumors, DerpyChap published a link from a data miner that included the PlayStation account link feature that Discord is expected to adopt. Discord integration for PlayStation Network could be coming soon, according to Twitter user AJ from Okami Games.

Sony recently revealed an improved PlayStation VR 2 headset, with Horizon Forbidden West creator Guerrilla Titles working on a spin-off VR game dubbed Horizon: Call of the Mountain as one of the first games to use it. Meanwhile, despite ongoing production challenges caused by the COVID-19 epidemic and a semiconductor scarcity that will last well into this year, the PS5 continues to set sales records.

Given how popular Discord is as a platform for connecting individuals with shared interests worldwide, Sony’s decision to include it as a feature on PlayStation consoles is a significant win. Although there is no official release date for PlayStation’s Discord connection, these latest discoveries suggest that it won’t be long before Discord users may connect with other Discord users in the middle of a multiplayer game on Sony consoles.
